A Word About the Name
superlative /suːˈpəːlətɪv/
■ adjective
1 of the highest quality or degree.
—ORIGIN Middle English: from Old French superlatif, -ive, from late Latin superlativus, from Latin superlatus, superferre ‘carry beyond’.
—Selection from The Oxford English Dictionary
The name of the blog is inspired by Article IX of An Orthodox Creed: A Protestant Confession of Faith (1679). It reads, in part, thusly:
[God] hath constantly Decreed in his Counsel secret to us, to deliver from Curse and Damnation, those whom he hath chosen in Christ, and bring them to everlasting Salvation, as Vessels made to Honour, through Jesus Christ, whom he Elected before the Foundation of the World, and is called God’s Elect, in whom his Soul delighteth; being the Lamb fore-ordained, and so Predestined unto the Superlative Glory of the Hypostatical Union.
Later, the Creed affirms:
[Jesus Christ] is the only fit Mediator between God and Man, who is very God, and very Man; yet one Christ; who was Sanctified, and Anointed with the Holy Spirit above measure, and was Superlatively, and Admirably fitted for, and called unto this Office by his Father.
The glory of Jesus Christ is indeed "of the highest quality or degree."
He has no rival or equal. He is Lord. He is Savior. He is Advocate and Friend.
To Him be glory forever! Amen.
